Description
Arthur was a beloved white tiger of the Animal Park at the Conservators Center and one of the most famous exotic animals in North Carolina history. He arrived in 2008 as a malnourished three-month-old cub, just 19 pounds, and the Animal Park became the loving home he deserved. He grew into something extraordinary: expressive, playful, and possessed of blue-green eyes that held both childlike wonder and a soft intelligence. Arthur was a storybook figure, and he acted like he knew it.
In 2012, Arthur ran for President of the United States. With his own campaign website, bumper stickers, and a full White House Cabinet drawn from his fellow residents, Thomas Lion as VP, Savannah Leopard as Secretary of State, and the servals recruited as his Secret Serval Service. Arthur campaigned on wildlife conservation and a manned mission to Mars, though he kept getting distracted thinking about muffins. His social media presence, crafted by his devoted caretaker over ten years, built genuine public affection for a tiger who reminded thousands of people why wild animals matter.
Beyond politics, Arthur’s most celebrated chapter was his friendship with Kira Lioness. The two bonded across their enclosure wall before eventually sharing the same space, acting as physical therapists for each other, their unlikely companionship inspiring a children’s book. Arthur passed away in 2019. The grief at the Animal Park was real and deep.
